We're all tired and subdued this evening.
I just put an apple pie in the oven. I didn't think it would take as long as it did to make and to bake. I've never made an apple pie before. Tarts, yes, but not a pie. I used crust from TJ's, which wasn't great to work with.
But anyhow. Wake up was 5:15AM this morning, since we had to drive about 1-1:15 away to get Linnea to a regatta. Of course, since I knew I had to be up early, I was awake about every hour, and had a hard time falling back asleep each time.
Linnea was rowing, to her delight, in the JV lightweight boat. I hope they maintain this boat, the girls liked it, and most if not all of them, like Linnea, are natural lightweights. The team does not beleive in having girls diet to make lightweight and has been reluctant to field a lightweight boat for that reason, but I guess this year they felt they had the right combination of girls to try it out.
She had to be at the regatta site at 7AM. She wasn't due to launch until 12:40PM, with a race time of 1:20.
Dh and I went to get breakfast, which we ate at a park overlooking the Sound and the train tracks. We went back to nearby the regatta park, where parking was at a premium and hung out in the car until it was time to watch her launch.
They got off ok, and then we just waited for them to get back, at race pace.
Which they did! Placing second, behind their own varsity boat. Linnea has got another silver medal to add to her collection, which is awesome!
And because I'm talking about rowing. We missed Tail of the Lake, one of my fave regattas, last week because of being in NM. Perry placed 3rd in the men's open, which is pretty cool.
Anyhow, after getting back on land, thrilled as thrilled could be, Linnea and her teammates went back to de-rig their boat and load in on the trailer. Then, finally, we headed home, stopping along the way for a late lunch/early dinner. Linnea (and anyone rowing in the same flight, ie half the team, though her race was the last) missed lunch provided by the team, so she was hungry.
Back home, and I'm finally getting around to baking my pie!
