It's Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association championships, and so far, it's been great.
Exhausting but great.
WWU women's team is Div II and the men would probably be if they were a varsity program rather than club, but I'd say from numbers, they're either good Division III or bottom of Division II. So we didn't expect wins but just hoped they'd make it to the B Finals in ok positions.
Some of the races are divided by division, most are not.
Some good surprises: The women's 8 did spectacularly well, coming in first in their heat (Div II and others). If they'd been racing in the Div I heat, they'd have come in 4th, which is a pretty spectacular event.
The men's team did a lot better than expected: here are the results, stolen directly from Instagram:
RESULTS
Varsity 8+ - 5th
-onto petite finals-
Novice 8+ - 5th
-onto petite finals
Varsity 4+ - 4th
-onto petite finals-
Varsity B 4+ - 3rd 🥉
Novice 4+ - 2nd
-onto GRAND finals-
Novice B 4+ - 2nd 🥈
Perry is in the Varsity 8+, and that 5th position was against mostly Div I teams, which is kinda cool. Hopefully they'll do well tomorrow. He was also in the Varsity 4+, which is his favorite boat, and under similar circumstances, they came in 4th, against teams more highly ranked than they were. So yay for a good day!

We took a Lyft to the venue, and ended up walking back. It was a bit under two miles, which, you know, is just a bit over what I do most days of the week on hilly terrain, and this was flat. And yet it killed me. Something about 80 fucking degrees. That's waaaay too hot for me. As a morning exerciser, I rarely do much in that kind of temperature!
