Three things for Sunday
24 Apr 2022 11:091. I had planned on writing about this on Friday, Earth Day, but broken bones rather changed my focus! Anyhow, this year, dh and I decided that one change we would make is no more plastic clamshells. If it comes in a clamshell, we won't purchase it. Almost four months in, I can see where this is a total pain. No more berries until I can get local ones. Herbs: they're all in small shells, but I have found a place that sells them in plastic baggies, and I guess this could be an incentive to grow my own. No baked goods at Costco, which sounds fine until you're trying to feed rowers. No easy-to-grab box lunches and fewer options at the deli. Not that the latter happens all that often, but when it does it's usually that we're in a time or some such crunch and could really use the easy option. There was an article a few weeks back saying "people are addicted to plastic packaging". No, really, we're not. There are just no other options, and we're addicted to foods we are pretty much stuck purchasing in plastic packaging. I am well aware that it takes a certain amount of privilege to be able to avoid the damn clamshells.
2. So so happy Macron won in France. Gah, LePen. Her father was worse, but she ain't good. Fucking racist fascists, both of them. That said, the extreme right is doing better election by election and this is -as here- something that we need to take a stand on.
3. I do not want to own an RV. I love tent camping. However, as it's becoming harder and harder to find campsites across the west (the deadlines are all in Feb. I was in the middle of getting my thesis out, LOL, not reservationning happened), I'm seeing the point of at least a Sprinter type van. Not as big as an RV, can stay in more places than a tent, and takes less time to set up camp. Dh is completely against (even though he's the one whose back hurts worse sleeping on the ground), but I might have found my argument: chasing trains. Happens in the middle of nowhere, often no place to stay, and when there is some place, it's long ago been booked by people in the know, and/or allows smoking. I may convince him yet....
