Yo, airlines
19 Nov 2020 14:41I'm not planning on flying any time soon, but it appears a lot of people are going to, despite the CDC recommendations that came out today (a little bit late...) not to travel.
One thing that I think could be done: eliminate the checked luggage fee and don't allow people to bring any carryons into the plane. Just a laptop bag type thing that will fit under the seat.
Why?
Because the worse time in the plane for ventilation is during boarding. And a lot of what takes time during boarding is people stowing their crap. So. Eliminate the crap, board from the back (which should be faster, if nobody has to stop at the front to stow their carryon), and minimize the low-ventilation time.
Also, some airline needs to land a plane because of a maskhole and make them responsible financially for the diversion. Add it to the standard "you bought a ticket, this is what you agree too" contract thingie. It'll take once, with appropriate media, for the public to catch on that they mean it, and I suspect many free-dumb lovers will shut up and wear a mask. Being put on a do-not-fly list is a long term thing (that needs to happen too), but the reality of OMG, we're diverting a plane because some idiot won't wear a mask will help convince morons to put it on and keep it on.
If I were queen of the world, this would be done. By Fiat, of course. Democracy is only a good thing if I am not in charge. :) (jk)
