First world problems.
28 Sep 2020 09:31As it often it in the US, the lack of choice in consumer goods is both real and hidden.
Hidden because there seem to be So! Many! Options!
But real because they are all the same, or there is no middle option.
Both of these are in play when it comes to hand soap.
If you look around there are so many kinds, and scents! You can get foaming (devil's choice, buy regular and dilute it at home!), antibacterial (don't bother...), unscented, scented, natural, organic, whatever!
But the drill down a bit.
What is hard to find? Soap in a larger container (to minimize packaging) that is not environmentally friendly and is also not too stinky or too harsh.
Because the problem with the environmentally friendly soaps? They don't lather and they often don't work as well as regular soap (the "work as well" is mostly dish soap. I bought a gallon of some "green" dish soap at Costco and I finished it a few weeks ago and right now I'm using a bottle of something orange that we brought up from Albuquerque after my FIL died and OMG, it works SO much better!)
Dial and the like leave my hands cracked and dry. Trader Joe's liquid soaps are hit and miss. I tried some all natural foofy brand from the local coop and I could barely get a lather out of it. I have found a few fragrances at Bath and Body Works (aka the stinky store) that we all like and they lather well etc, but they only sell small bottles and no refills.
I should probably go to bar soap, but I'm lazy and so is my family. I do tend to get dry hands easily, and then everything cracks and it hurts. I ran out of whatever Trader Joe's stuff I'd been using a few days ago and found a 3/4 full bottle of Dove BodyWash and have been using that, and I've got a large patch of dry skin "growing" on the back and side of my hand. LOL.
As well. I'm going to try some SoftSoap. Fingers crossed it isn't too harsh on my hands.
