I am disgusted.
27 May 2020 11:30I'm watching and listening to the SpaceX launch crap and I want to both throw up and cry.
Commercial space. Put Tom Cruise on the Space Station to make a movie. Commercial. Monetize space. Mine the moon.
UGH, no.
I was not displeased when the private (non state) Israeli rocket crashed on the moon (and NOT thrilled that they seeded life there, with zero accountability and responsibility), because I, quite honestly, don't WANT to see ANY purely non-government entities taking charge out there.
Imagine if Antarctica had not been controlled by a government consortium. Yes, there are private companies contracting there, but the main thrust of the Antarctic Treaty is that the continent is used for scientific reasons. Not commercial, not miliary (*).
This is what we needed for space. Not Elon Fucking Musk, who is a scumbucket, commercializing and monetizing something that should be under the care of all of humanity.
I don't want the astronauts to die, so I can't say I really want the mission to fail, since failure in space does kill people, but man, I wish NASA and the US government had not decided to abdicate and hand over control to Musk, Bezos, and the rest of the corporate world. Because these people are such upstanding citizens, right?
(*) Yes, I know the Japanese, Icelanders, and Norwegians slaughter whales for "science" and just happen to eat the meat, the by-product of the science, dontcha know. Note that I am NOT talking about Native peoples here.
