We keep on hearing it... Black women are 3-4 times more likely to die in childbirth than white women.
That is chilling.
Here's the part that makes it even worse.
White US women don't fare well compared to European women, with a maternal mortality rate of 12 per 100,000 women, compared to, say, 8 for France, 4 for Italy, or a staggering 3 for Greece, Finland, and Poland (just to name those few).
Black women are faring poorly, in other words, compared to white women who are also faring poorly.
That makes that 3-4 times more likely even more appalling, and seems to point to systemic problem in the United States on top of the systemic horror of racism.
We don't treat women well in this country.
