Exhausting weekend!
11 Mar 2019 10:26OMG. It's been an exhausting, but mostly fun, few days.
My sister, BIL, and aunt came this weekend for dh's birthday.
I was in the lab long days Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday last week. Thurday, I did the shopping for the week, ran errands, and got some house cleaning and tidying done. Friday I had a hair cut appointment (booked a long time ago), and.... a volunteer project.
See, this year, Linnea's team opted not to send the team for a weekend of bonding and training in Idaho. The kids loved it, but it was expensive, exhausting, and a lot of work. Last year, the buses broke down on the way back, and that turned into a logistical nightmare. And we were quite happy to find out that the trip had been cancelled because it involved the kids skipping school on a Friday, and after the disruption of this school year, that's the last thing Linnea needed. Anyhow, instead of that, they decided to go a "retreat" here, and had the kids at the boathouse pretty much all day Saturday and Sunday. They fed them lunch on Saturday and breakfast on Sunday, prepared by parent volunteers, as well as Costco pizza and cake after they were done on Sunday. With my weekend, there was no way I could volunteer, and I need the volunteer hours, so I contacted the food coordinator and asked if there was anything I could do beforehand. Which is why, Friday, I spent most of the day shopping approximately 60lbs of veggies. OMG, the carrots. The CARROTS. That hurt. My shoulder is still twinging! Anyhow, that was Friday.
Saturday morning, I took my aunt, Perry, and one of his crew teammates down to south of Tacoma where their regatta was. Leaving the house at 5:30 am, SUCH! fun. Got to see Perry race twice, which was great. His boat won both races, and yes, he was in the top team boat, the only Freshman... I still fingers crossed about him making it to Nationals with that boat... Anyhow. Got back, had dinner. Perry was sick poor boyo.
Sunday was fun, and but also hectic. Dh's choice for food was to make a brisket on the smoker, so we were up at 5am to get that on. And with all the stuff that needed to get done, his cake wasn't totally made so that got done. And... and... and...
But it was so much fun, even my mother-in-law, sister-in-law, and Anne-Chloe's annoying, braying boyfriend couldn't spoil it. My aunt, sister, and BIL are awesome and we got to talk and start talking about a potential trip to the auld family stomping grounds of Nova Scotia (Scotland up next, but we're trying Nova Scotia first). So that was fun. Perry was feeling better, though not 100%, and he was feeling worse when he got back last night, poor kid.
Daylight savings time is the invention of Satan and we need to be on standard time all year.
Linnea, after a busy week, and the weekend of non-stop rowing, was as exhausted as I have ever seen her, poor sweet nut. She got up and out this morning, despite the loss of that hour, and having to leave an extra 10 minutes early because the stupid school system is adding 10 minutes to the day to help make up for snow days, feh. She's going to be exhausted later, and I might keep her home from rowing, depending.
Everyone got out ok, and I stayed home from the lab. I'm too sleepy to do the drive so I didn't want to chance it. So I'm sitting here alone (with cats) in the house, with my cup of tea, listening to the silence.
Dh had a good time, and that's the best part.
