Kitty re-education camp.

Time for kitty re-education camp.

So. We have these wonderful Cat Genie little boxes. They're hooked into the plumbing, 100% automatic, and work great.

Here's how things went:

BamBam only: Cat Genie was fine. He used it. Yay.

Get kittens. Get regular litter box temporarily because they are too small for the Cat Genies.

Very quickly, BamBam is the only one using the regular litter, the other two move to the Cat Genie.

Then.

For now discernable reason, all three cats decide to start using the regular litter box. Cue unhappy cat-parents.

First reaction: let it get dirty, and they'll use the nice clean Cat Genies. Umm... nope. They poop on the floor.

Second reaction: get rid of the regular litter. Nope, again poop on the floor. We think at least Auri used the Cat Genies to pee in, but alas, BamBam and Twisp found laundry or anywhere to avoid them.

Third reaction: give up, scoop twice a day, and seethe.

We'll in the seething phase, and have been for almost a year now.

However a few months back, I suggested we try some kitty re-education. It will be a several phase progress with cat-dependent timing.

1. Unplug the cat genies and put regular kitty litter in both Cat Genies and the regular box.

2. Remove the regular box and leave regular littler in the Cat Genies.

3. Swap the regular litter for the Cat Genie granules, and continue scooping by hand (*).

4. Turn on the Cat Genies, sacrifice a rubber chicken, and pray to Bast.

(*) We've been wondering if they got startled by a Cat Genie starting to run while they were using the other one next to it, or some such. Anyhow, removing the automatic (or even scheduled) cleaning seems like a good plan.

So there. We'll see.

ETA. After further discussion, we might swap steps 2 and 3, and have Cat Genie granules in all three boxes, before removing the regular litter box.
