Mmmm.... quince
22 Oct 2018 18:32Someone on nextdoor was offering up "come pick, free!" quince. Yowsa. So this afternoon, I went and picked, probably close to 15lbs, maybe a bit less.
I have a first batch simmering away, the rest smell wonderful, and I'm thrilled.
I've made quince jam before, and it's never fun dealing with the fruit, but man, it's yummy when it's done. It was my father's fave jam, so a bit of nostalgia as well. That said, it's been... a few decades, since the rare times I've found quince here, they've been so expensive, jam quantities were not gonna happen!
First batch is probably going to be jelly and then I'll process the leftover pulp for membrillo/pâte de coings. I'll try to make some jam as well, I find it as delicious as jelly.
Whee!
I'll have to stop by the lady's house and leave her a jar of jelly!
ETA I boiled down a pot and when dh and Linnea came home, they paused, sniffing. It was a smell neither of them had ever smelled before.
ETA much later....
