The obolus
1 Mar 2010 19:38The expression in French is much more eloquent: payer son obole à Charon, to pay Charon his obolus, but I suppose a penny for the ferryman will have to do.
Or in this case a chip for your mother.
Seriously.
The kids, these days, get small bags of various chippies for snack. I don't want big bags of chips around, so I close my eyes and buy the individual small bags. Chips and Doritos becuase I'd never bother eating a bag of those, at this point. Pretzels, my favourite are an other matter: as close to pure salt as I can get. Heh.
Anyhow. I hand the kids their bags of chips, and each of them gives me one chip back.
My pay for ferrying them from school to gym, to PT, to wherever it is they need to go, for navigating the Styx that is I405?
Or in this case a chip for your mother.
Seriously.
