And so it goes....
Today was the GreenLake Summer Extravaganza regatta. It's the last one Perry will row with his teammates from school (well, as teammates, though they may all participate in the same regattas in the fall "head" season). So bittersweet, truly so.
He's such a great kid, and he has a great team with him. He's really going to miss two of the girls he's been very close friends with for a long time, and I know they're going to miss him.
Fun fact: his last race was a mixed double with E, one of those girls, and they came in second.
It's been a fun summer of rowing for him. He's been helping out at the new-to-us boathouse, and rowing a few days a week, then rowing with his team for the summer program a few more.

Other bits o fun, these two Linnea related.
Linnea wants to row next year, so she'll be going back to SRA. I'm quite surprised. I thought she liked it, but it was very hard for her, for many reasons, so I wasn't sure she'd continue. I'm glad she is, I think it does her good.
So. That mixed double? Someone scratched, so the coach asked if she could enter yet another boat. They said sure, may as well, so Linnea had an entry to the mixed doubles. She had, however, neither a doubles partner nor a boat.
The coach set out with Perry and E to talk to a few other teams we're friendly with and have exchanged favours with to see if she can borrow a boat for them. Perry is, ahem, well known in the rowing community, so not only did they easily find a boat for him to borrow, it was a good boat. I love that he has a such a good reputation.
So. Boat acquired for Perry and E, which means Linnea has a boat.
Doubles partner. This one was both easier and harder. Coach was going to ask one of the guys from the boathouse, but didn't know which one. So she told Linnea to pick. Linnea freaked out a bit, but finally in the end, with help from the other members of the team ("Pick the hottest!" "Pick the guy with the biggest shoulders!" "Pick that guy, he looks fast!", they asked a guy named Alex, who is probably in his late 20s/early 30s, and she rowed with him. It was quite funny, because he's a lot taller, and they carried the boat down to launch together. They rowed a decent race, considering that she's tiny and he just got back into rowing not having rowed since high school 13 years ago. When they got off the water, Linnea was panting, she had rowed her little heart out, and another guy from the boathouse came to carry the boat for her. He told Alex he was lucky at least one doubles partner went all out to row today, since I guess his two others (the guy and another woman, from other races) didn't put in as much effort. Anyhow, it was good humoured teasing, but both Linnea and Alex appeared pleased with their race, so that was really nice. Photo below....

If you follow the link to flickr, there are a few of them launching. I think dh has some better ones but he hasn't uploaded them yet.
And yeah, Linnea grew up a lot. She went from a sweet faced tween looking kid even though she was in her early teens to a teen!
