OMG, Trader Joe's.
The cream cheese I bought last week, which was best by or whatever tomorrow was bad. Dh walked up to Safeway (*) to get me another package.
The milk I bought yesterday had a best by of 24 Jan, which I did not notice. It was bad too. Now, granted, I should have checked, but yesterday was the 26th, that sucker should have been pulled.
I'm baking this White Chocolate Velvet Cake for my sister's bday. It's 1 Feb, so I figure celebrating this weekend while she is here, and my brother is as well, would be cool. But man, two dairy fails for one cake?
I'm making some modifications to the recipe, we'll see how the end product turns out.
(*)Pilot in for more work. Dh thought it might be the head gasket ($3000+) but it was some cam gasket, and we'll have the valve cover gasket done at the same time (btdt, both of us, no thanks on us doing it again). The Pilot has 370 000 miles on it, so eh, but we put about $2500 into it last November, so it made sense to at least figure out what was going on. Today's repairs will be about $1500. This brings the total of 'unexpected expenses in the last 3 months' to $7000. Feeling fortunate that while it isn't easy, it's doable.
